MyTVOnline: A Proper Guide to Formuler's Player (Portals, Playlists and the Settings That Matter)
MyTVOnline is the player that ships on Formuler boxes. If you have a Z8, a Z10, a Z11 or one of their siblings, it is the app you land in when the box boots, and for most owners it is the only app they ever use.
It is also a genuinely good piece of software — fast, keyboard-friendly, built for a remote control rather than adapted from a phone app. But it exposes more options than most players, and that is a double-edged thing. Set up well, it is the best living-room IPTV experience available. Set up carelessly, you end up with a duplicated channel list, no guide, and a nagging sense that something is wrong.
This is the guide we wish came in the box.
Understand the three ways to connect
Almost every MyTVOnline problem traces back to this, so it is worth getting straight before touching anything. There are three formats you can feed the player, and they behave differently.
Portal (also called Stalker or MAC portal). You enter a portal URL, and the box identifies itself with its MAC address. Your provider has registered that MAC on their side. The portal then pushes down the channel list, the guide, and the on-demand sections as a complete package.
Advantage: everything arrives configured. Nothing to assemble. Disadvantage: it is bound to that MAC address. Change the box and you have to ask your provider to re-register. You also cannot easily use the same line on a phone.
M3U playlist. One long URL that returns a text file listing every channel.
Advantage: universal. Works in every player on every device. Disadvantage: it is just a list. The programme guide usually needs a second, separate URL, and films and series often land in the same flat list as live channels instead of a proper library.
Xtream Codes login. A server address, a username and a password.
Advantage: the best of both. The player talks to the provider's API, so you get proper film and series sections with artwork, a guide that generally configures itself, and your account expiry date visible on screen. It is not tied to a MAC, so the same credentials work on your phone and your TV.
If your provider offers Xtream details, use them. That is the recommendation, and it resolves most of the friction people run into.
Setting up, format by format
Xtream Codes
From the MyTVOnline home screen, open the playlist or account setup section and choose the Xtream option. You will be asked for three things:
- Server URL — exactly as given, including
http://orhttps://and the port number if there is one. This is the field people get wrong. - Username
- Password
Save, and let it load. On a large list this takes a couple of minutes the first time — it is downloading tens of thousands of entries plus the guide. Do not conclude it has failed after twenty seconds.
M3U playlist
Choose the playlist option and paste the M3U URL. Then, separately, look for the EPG or XMLTV field and add the guide URL your provider gave you. If you only enter the first link, you will have channels and no guide, and this is by far the most common "my EPG is broken" cause.
Portal
Choose the portal option and enter the portal URL. Your provider needs your box's MAC address registered in advance — you will find it in the network or system information screen. If the portal loads to an empty list or an error, the MAC is almost always the culprit: either it was not registered, or it was registered with a typo.
The settings worth changing on day one
MyTVOnline's defaults are reasonable but conservative. Four changes make it noticeably better.
Buffer size. There is a buffering or caching setting. If you get brief stutters every few minutes, nudge it up. A larger buffer means channels take slightly longer to start and are far less likely to break mid-stream. On a rock-solid wired connection you can leave it low for instant channel changes; on Wi-Fi, raise it.
This is the one legitimate case where "change the buffer setting" is real advice rather than a cargo-cult fix — but it treats a symptom of an unstable connection, not a bad stream.
Hardware decoding. Should be on. Occasionally a specific channel misbehaves with it enabled and plays correctly with it off. If exactly one channel is broken while everything else is fine, this is worth trying before blaming the provider.
Auto-start on boot. If the box exists purely for television, set MyTVOnline to launch automatically. It turns the Formuler into an appliance rather than a computer.
The default guide layout. MyTVOnline offers several EPG views. Try them once. The grid view suits people who browse; the now-and-next list suits people who know what they want. Picking one deliberately is better than living with whichever was default.
Favourites, groups and making 60,000 channels usable
A full IPTV list is an absurd object. Nobody watches sixty thousand channels; most people watch between fifteen and forty.
Spend ten minutes on this and the whole experience changes:
Mark your favourites. Select a channel, use the favourite option on the remote, repeat for the ones you actually watch. Then set the player to open on the favourites group.
Hide the groups you never use. MyTVOnline lets you disable entire categories. If you never watch a particular country's channels, hide them. Navigation gets dramatically faster.
Reorder your favourites. Put the four you watch most at the top. It sounds trivial. It is the difference between reaching for the remote and reaching for your phone instead.
Set the parental lock and change the PIN. Do it during setup, not after a child finds something. Leaving the default PIN is the same as not setting one.
Fixing the guide
If the EPG is missing or wrong, work through this in order.
Wait. A full guide is a big file. First load can take several minutes.
Check you supplied a guide URL. M3U setups need one. Xtream and portal setups usually do not. This is the most common cause by a distance.
Check the time zone — in the app, then on the box itself. If programmes are showing but shifted by a few hours, the data is fine and the clock is not.
Force a refresh. There is an option to reload EPG data. Use it after changing anything.
Accept some gaps. Small regional and international channels frequently carry no data at all. A handful of blanks is normal. Half the list being blank is not, and is worth raising with your provider.
Buffering: finding the actual cause
Formuler boxes are capable machines, so when a stream stutters the box is rarely the problem. There are four layers involved — your internet, your local network, the box, and the provider's server — and the point of these checks is to isolate which one.
One channel or all of them? One channel is a broken feed at the provider's end. Report it; there is nothing to fix on your side. All channels means the problem is closer to home.
Wired or wireless? This is the big one. Formuler boxes have an ethernet port, and using it fixes more buffering than every other adjustment combined. Wi-Fi in a flat, on 2.4GHz, surrounded by neighbours, is the most common cause of living-room stutter there is. If you can run a cable, run one.
Only in the evening? Congestion — either your ISP at peak time or your provider's servers. If a channel is flawless at 2pm and unwatchable during a Saturday match, that is server capacity, and no setting on the box will fix it.
Only in 4K? Bandwidth. 4K needs roughly four times what HD needs. Switch to the HD feed of the same channel and see if it holds.
Are you over your connection limit? If someone else in the house is streaming on the same account and you are past the limit, the symptom is buffering rather than a clear error. Check the number before assuming the service is at fault.
When it is the service, not the setup
If you have worked through all of the above and streams still break at peak, the honest conclusion is that the source is the weak link. The signs are consistent: the same channels fail repeatedly, the guide is patchy everywhere, big matches are unwatchable while quiet afternoons are fine, and support goes quiet exactly when you need it.
MyTVOnline cannot fix that. It is an excellent renderer of whatever it is handed, and if what it is handed arrives late and in pieces, that is what appears on screen.

Quick answers
Is MyTVOnline free? It is included on Formuler boxes. You still need a subscription from a provider — the player has no channels of its own.
Can I use MyTVOnline without a Formuler box? It is designed for Formuler hardware. On other devices you would use a different player; any provider worth using gives you credentials that work in all of them.
Portal or Xtream — which should I ask for? Xtream, if it is offered. It is not tied to your box's MAC address, it gives proper film and series sections, and it works on your phone with the same details.
Why is my channel list duplicated? You have added the same source twice, usually once as M3U and once as Xtream. Remove one.
I changed my box and everything stopped working. If you are on a portal setup, your subscription is bound to the old box's MAC address. Ask your provider to re-register the new one. This is the main reason to prefer Xtream.
How do I record? Attach USB storage and use the recording option in the guide. Check the drive is formatted in a filesystem the box accepts, and note that recording consumes a connection while it runs.
